Palisades Center in partnership with BRIDGES and the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Program, will host the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer/Palisades Center Walking Group every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. beginning on October 7, 2020. The group will meet at BRIDGES’ headquarters on Level Two. The PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran/Palisades Center Walking Group gives Veterans the chance to get out in the community, meet with one another, and exercise while following safe protocols.

The Rockland County PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran Peer Support Program is operated through BRIDGES, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocacy and leadership on behalf of people with disabilities. The Dwyer Program is supported by the Rockland County Department of Mental Health and Rockland County Veteran Service Agency. Named to honor the memory of an Iraq war hero from Mount Sinai, New York, the Dwyer Program provides Vet-to-Vet support among Veterans who personally understand the effects of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury.

The PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veteran/Palisades Center Walking Group is free and available to all Veterans, members of the Armed Forces, Guard, and Reserves and their families. All are welcome regardless of service dates, discharge status or dependency status.

“BRIDGES is always looking for safe, accessible and ideal opportunities for people we serve, including our Veterans, to be engaged, connected and active,” said Carlos Martinez, CEO and Executive Director of BRIDGES. “I am thankful to the Palisades Center for allowing us this opportunity to connect Veterans with one another in a safe way!”

“It’s great to see Palisades Center working with their tenants and local non-profit organizations to develop a program that benefits our heroes and is an absolute asset to the Clarkstown community,” said Clarkstown Councilman Michael Graziano. “Countless individuals from the Clarkstown community utilize Palisades Center as a safe, warm indoor venue to exercise and now our local Veterans have an organized program that will positively benefit their emotional health and well-being.”

“Palisades Center has always been the perfect venue for individuals looking to stay fit by walking, especially in the colder weather,” said Darrin Houseman, General Manager of Palisades Center. “We welcome our Veterans to Palisades Center, honor them, and look forward to providing them with a safe place to socialize and stay active.”
