PALISADES CENTER HONORS AND REMEMBERS THOSE WHO SERVED THIS MEMORIAL DAY

West Nyack, NY (May 2023): Palisades Center, the premier shopping and entertainment destination in West Nyack, New York, is pleased to announce its plans for Memorial Day, honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. In compliance with the Town of Clarkstown’s Memorial Day ordinance, Palisades Center will open at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 29. By observing the delayed opening, Palisades Center hopes to create a space for remembrance, reflection, and reverence during this important day of commemoration.

As part of its Memorial Day activities, Palisades Center is honored to feature a Memorial Day banner created by local Rockland County resident Anne Murphy with the assistance of John Antonucci, a Vietnam Veteran. Anne Murphy, an American Gold Star Mother, has dedicated her life to preserving the memory of fallen soldiers by working tirelessly to support veterans, active-duty military personnel, their families, and our communities. The banner, which serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our servicemen and servicewomen, hangs in the East Court in memory of Anne’s son, Lt. Col. Michael L. Murphy, USMC. Lt. Col. Murphy tragically lost his life on December 11, 2000, while test piloting the MV-22 Osprey Helicopter.

Palisades Center is grateful for the opportunity to showcase Anne Murphy’s powerful tribute, as it reinforces the importance of remembering those who selflessly gave their lives in service to our nation. Visitors to Palisades Center will have the chance to view the banner and reflect upon the immense sacrifice made by Lt. Col. Murphy and countless others.

In addition to featuring Anne Murphy’s banner, Palisades Center encourages the community to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony at Mount Moor Cemetery, which will commence at 9:00 AM. This tribute provides a meaningful opportunity for individuals to gather and pay their respects to three fallen heroes – Private Julius Benjamin Chaplin, Private Charles Moye, and James Benjamin Gilmore.

“On this Memorial Day, we want to express our gratitude and respect for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Darrin Houseman, General Manager of Palisades Center. “We’re honored to play a small part in keeping their memories alive and forever grateful for their courage and selflessness.”
